Empowering Farmers, Sustaining Growth
The City Agriculture Office (CAO) of Baybay continues to lead with impactful, data-driven programs that empower local farmers, boost productivity, and sustain agricultural growth across various sectors. With a strong commitment to inclusivity and innovation, the CAO has mobilized significant resources to uplift farming communities and improve livelihoods.
Strategic Investments Across Sectors
In 2024, the CAO mobilized over ₱35 million in agricultural investments, with the largest share going to Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (₱12.5 million), Coastal programs (₱8 million), and Livestock (₱4.4 million). These investments reflect a deliberate strategy to diversify support and meet sector-specific needs across Abaca, Corn, Fruit Trees, Rice, Rootcrops, Inland Fisheries, and Vegetables.
A Growing Network of Farmer Cooperators
With 233 abaca growers, 452 fruit tree cultivators, and 216 corn farmers, Baybay’s agricultural sector is thriving. Notably, jackfruit growers increased by 13.85% from 2023 to 2024, spanning 69 barangays. The CAO’s programs also sustain 147 vegetable farmers and 110 inland fishery beneficiaries, while 104 farmers received tractor services—marking a 36.84% increase from the previous year.
Agricultural Impact in Numbers
Vegetable Production: Farmers adopting CSICM technology saw a 216% average increase in vegetable productivity. In 2024, 250,000 MT of vegetables were produced, with ₱8.5 million distributed to 285 farmer partners.
Fingerling Distribution: Baybay Hatchery sold 616,000 fingerlings, with 90.2% staying within the city to support local aquaculture.
Land Utilization: A total of 522.84 hectares is actively cultivated. The top three sectors by land area are Vegetables (14.3%), ABE (18.7%), and Fruit Trees (35%).
Sustainable and Inclusive Agricultural Planning
Through consistent farmer engagement and targeted interventions, the CAO ensures economic viability and resilience. Programs like RBIFS and ‘bagsakan’ markets create lasting linkages between producers and consumers, while equipment services and inputs provided under ABE improve farm efficiency.
